Our guide meets you in the center of Tirana or at your accommodation for the short drive to the Dajti Ekspres station. Enjoy the scenic 15min cable car ride to a plateau at 1050m altitude, it is often dubbed the “Balcony of Tirana” thanks to the great views.

Soon the busy town is left behind when you enter the ancient fairy-tale oak forest. On well-trodden paths you make your way to a pass between the two peaks and on a track reach the Tujanit Peak (1580m). The panorama opens inland here, sweeps across the Skanderbeg Mountain Range and Lake Bovilla to the remote highlands of the Martanesh back country.

Returning to the station you have the opportunity for a picnic lunch along the way (you can shop with your guide before arriving to the station) or fine meal in one of the restaurants on the plateau at your expense.

After the rendezvous with your guide it will be a 30-45min drive into the outskirts of Tirana and to the village Pellumbas, where upon arrival you can enjoy refreshments before starting the hike.

The 2km long trail with scenic vistas leads through a canyon formed by the Erzeni River to the Black Cave. Enjoy the rural village atmosphere and discover Mediterranean plants on the way to the cave, which is not only home to a large bat colony but also an archaeological site. Artifacts dating back to the Neolithic period and the remains of cave bears (ursus spelae), older than 10.000 years, were unearthed here. Inside the cave you find marvelous stalagmite and stalactite formations and, if you dare to continue further, can listen in the dark to the sounds of the bats.

After your return to Pellumbas you can enjoy a refreshing swim in the river and light lunch in the village tavern.
